I'm doing a history project involving genocides, and when I asked my teacher about genocides involving the UK he told me about the Mary Tudor [bloody mary] genocide.

Then I realized that she only killed 300-600 people.
So does that mean that the tragedies of 9/11 was also a genocide seeing as we lost far over 600 people?

What classifies an event as a genocide?
Any opinions would be great.

Wikipedia says "Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction of an ethnic, racial, religious or national group." I don't think it matters how many people are killed. There is a serial killer on trial right now for murdering prostitutes in the western Canada region and it is my opinion that he should be tried for genocide as well. Any time you seek to eliminate a group of people that have something in common be it religion, job, ethnicity or political belief, you are committing genocide. If you have a plan to murder all of a particular group and you only kill 2 before you are caught you still committed genocide, in my opinion. Good luck with your paper!
