Hi! My stater went out, and I was wondering what is a fair price for its replacement including parts and labor?
Most of the places I've called said my car comes with either 1 of 2 different starters, a Denso or a Mitsuba. The general consensus is that they have to match the starter brand. A rebuilt Mitsuba costs quite a bit more than a rebuilt Denso.
I've been calling around, and one place quoted me $379 total. Another place said the labor alone would cost ballpark $200. Yet another place said $400-$500 for the Denso and $700-$800 for the Mitsuba.
On various online parts stores (such as Napa, Autozone, RockAuto) Densor or Mitsuba "style?" rebuilt Bosch and AC Delco, among some other brands range from about $140-$200. Actual Denso and Mitsuba rebuilt starters cost quite a bit more.
I guess I have two questions:
How important is that they use an actual Mitsuba or Denso starter? and are those fair price quotes?
PS-My dad originally intended to take the starter out himself, test it, and replace it himself. Let's just its location is quite hard to work on. He gave up. To add to that, one mechanic, which I kind of trust, said on my car it is a particularly labor intensive job due to its location...
