What is a cultural object that provides insight into the us civilization, and why?

This is my summer assignment: Sociologists think that no aspect of a culture, even the crudest material object, is without meaning. They consider all cultural objects significant.

Identify and obtain a cultural object that in your opinion, provides insight into our (United States) civilization. Bring that item with you on the first day of class in August. Be prepared to explain why the item you brought is symbolic of our culture. Items must be portable and readily accessible. (i.e. don't create anything, find an everyday artifact that is easily obtainable.)

Any good creative ideas?
 
A calendar. It demonstrates how we count our days, name our months, the holidays we celebrate, how we celebrate on a Monday so we can have a three day weekend rather than on the actual birthday(for example Martin Luther King Jr. birthday) there is one or more in every home we have at least 5 not counting the one in my purse and not counting the ones on the computer and cell phone.
