What is a bible passage which explains the Jewish understanding of the law?

I need to find a bible passage which explains the Jewish understanding of their law and how it should be followed.
To rac: I probably would get a better idea through first-hand discussions with Jewish people, but I actually need to reference bible passages as this is part of a school religious studies asessment
