What is a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography?

Tiff,
much of photography is about art, not just weddings or news. So both are the 4-year Bachelor's degrees. The Fine Arts bachelor's focuses on the art of photography; the other bachelor's is about weddings, news, family group photos, etc. You should also talk to the professors of both types to get their take on the difference. If you want to see both offered at one college go online to Los Rios Colleges, especially Sacramento City College. It has a very well-respected program in photography.

"In the US, the [Bachelor of Fine Arts] degree differs from a Bachelor of Arts degree in that the majority of the program consists of a practical studio component, as contrasted with lecture and discussion classes. A typical US BFA program consists of two-thirds study in the arts, with one-third in more general liberal arts studies; for a BA in Art, the ratio might be reversed."

What qualifies as a BFA differs between some countries. Read the full Wikipedia entry for a better understanding.
