I was wondering what 3g and HSCSD were?

I searched on the internet, and all the definitions I got were too technical and I didnt get what it does practically.

Can anyone please help? Please I need to know what they are since I am buying a phone.

But I need an answer thats not technical and everyone can understand how its useful.

3G refers to how your mobile device access the internet.

There are several ways your phone can transmit data: GPRS, EDGE aka 2.5G, or 3G aka UMTS, W-CDMA, HSDPA, or EVDO

Basically GPRS is the slowest, then EDGE, then 3G. There are many types of 3G and they all provide the same function just in differing ways. This is usually dependant on where you live as your service provider must have that type of network established.

GPRS has different classes ranging from 1-10(ten being the fastest). EDGE is aprox the same speed as a dial-up moden and 3G is about the same as a DSL or cable modem.(someone please correct me if im wrong)

HSCSD on the otherhand is a specific way for information to be sent over EDGE or UMTS networks and i believe may increase performance of either type but more useful for EGDE than UMTS.

If you dont intend to surf the web, download music/videos or do video conferencing none of this really matters...

Hope that helps

so is 3g just like a wireless internet card (LAN) so I can go online using a router?

if yes, then whats the difference with it and wifi?

kind of...3G doesnt require a router. Thus(assuming you have a data plan) you can access the internet anywhere you have a cell phone signal. Wifi on the other hand requires a router and thus you are tethered to your house and/or local hotspots.
