What indications would there be if a non-Earth civilization were observing/studying us?

1) Infrequent craft sightings over a period of decades (UFO sightings)
2) Indirect communication via non-spoken word (Crop circles)
3) Introduction of the phenomenon in the media (Influence on writers - introduction of Sci-Fi genre)
4) Uncharacteristic denial by the government (UFO data releases UK, France, Spain, Sweden etc. but not U.S.)
5) Gov't influence: Promoting top-down policy making the subject taboo to study.
6) Misdirection by Government: (Tabloids, Sci-Fi TV episodes with actual undercover program titles)
7) Accounts of abductions that don't seem to subside
8) Trickle release of evidence (most recent Mars news from NASA regarding life, Vatican statement)
9) Deathbed confessions (Roswell)

This is wild speculation on my part but the pieces seem to loosly fit. What are your views?
Jack P: It makes me wonder, is the scientific method for testing reality or for slowing progress.
Mr. Bitter: If a rat recognized the cheeze was put there, maybe he'd stop running the maze.

The eminent astronomer J Allen Hyneck became a staunch believer in the phenomenon when he was in charge of the Air Force investigation " Project Blue Book". Most military officials in the upper echelons also know the truth. Gen. Nathan Twining (of Roswell fame) admitted so in several military communiques in the 1950s. Also,on the subject of crop circles, the previous answerer stated some people admitted to making some crop circles. It is impossible for them to make all of them. There is an enormous conference about them in my home state of Vermont every year. It brings in thousands of participants. It is run by Sacred Britian Tours ,of which I am am member.
