I just read that Campbells announced back in 2008 that the ingredients to Pace salsa were changed and it was no longer gluten free after that. I didn't know because I thought Campbell's would label gluten, so I bought some Pace Triple Pepper at Big Lots and looked it up online to double check when I got home and found out about that old announcement.
But all I see in there that could be gluten is Balsamic Vinegar and Distilled Vinegar, and they have to legally label wheat ingredients, so the vinegar can't be wheat-based. Do they ever make vinegar from Barley or Rye?
There is no cross-contamination statement, like that it is made in a factory that processes wheat ingredients or anything like that, and it does not list "natural flavors" as an ingredient.
So I am wondering if this thing Campbell's did was a CYA statement.
