what if there was no communication and just small talk on the phone and thats it?

i have to deal with a guy literally for the rest of my life and we never see each other and there is no relationship just a baby between us what do i do talk more? he never comes over i never go over ? this normal ?yes i know this changed after we had a baby and we were never together before
