What if the black caucus addressed the thug, anti-education and anti-achievement

mentality ...? that permeates poor black neighborhoods instead of whining that Obama is not doing enough for them? What would happen if instead of demanding special assistance for black car dealerships and demanding more bad loans be made to minorities that spent their time teaching people how to impact their own lives without a handout?
DM, we have thrown tens of billions of dollars at these communities and all we have accomplished is to convince them they are victims who cannot stand on their own. It is past time for the African American community to stand up and take responsibility for their future
Coachy I have been very poor. I have watched my mom work two jobs and go to night school in order to make us a future. I grew up watching the power of hard work, good decisions, and personal responsibility. That is what is missing. The mind set that is perpetuating poverty in black communities can only be overcome by those who are there. They can choose to value education over recreation. They can choose to not have children they cannot afford. They can choose to get involved with their children's education and invest in their future. It really is not that complicated.

Give a man a fish and you can feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you can feed him for a lifetime.
Sounds good to me but this isn't something you can do quickly or easily. You see these neighborhoods have been neglected for a long time. So long, in fact, that a different culture has evolved there and that culture will be a real pain to overcome. What you need to do is a little of both your solution and their solution. You need to get the infrastructure of a healthy economy in those neighborhoods and that means directing money there. Once you get people working in jobs than you can expand education to get them better jobs or even to get them to become entrepreneurs making their own jobs. Right now going in to teach will not accomplish much because they won't benefit from education quick enough to make it worth while unless there are opportunities there for educated workers. There are few of those right now.
