and just developed first party software.

what if this round did them in and they just did current gen remodels of mario and zelda and metroid and icarus and donkey kong and........the list goes on and on. what if? sega did it and they did a pretty good job of it with the sega sports games, and the sonic games.

could you imagine mario and link in hidef? metroid fps with multiplayer? it would be the greatest move in gamedom ever

all sonic games have been horrible after adventure 2
sega is stilll baller though ( @ yakuza and VF5 )

although i agree with your last sentence though
 
They were talking about that on gametrailers BONUS ROUND discussion last week. It all boiled down to no because Nintendo makes too much money (about $30 billion per year) with handhelds and the new Wii. It'd be a stupid financial decision if they were to go the way of Sega (who's only a 2 billion per year company) to ONLY focus on games.
 
With their firm hold on the handheld market, and their renewed success in the console market with the Wii....they're doing really well financially. Also, Nintendo is the only one that consistently makes money from their consoles from day one....it'a always been that way. They're not going anywhere.
 
Nintendo arent going that way for a long time. Some HUGE mistake would have to happen.

Sony is more likely to do this first, they are losing money left and right.
 
ya i was hoping for this also. lots more game sales.

however, since people buy the consoles left and right and theres tons of profit, it would not be feasible to just go the 3rd party software route.
 
Nintendo is making tons of cash, they're not going anywhere in terms of consoles.

...and Sega has fallen off since going 3rd party only IMO
 
i would hope that sony would scoop them up if they ever feel on thier face, becasue it would just be ironic.. 10 years ago nintendo kicked sony to the curb and said we dont need your 32x drive anymore for the superNES so sony when on to make thier own system and then have nintendo come come back and go.. "uhh we need help"

but on a serious note if nintendo joined forces with sony MS wouldnt have a chance.. halo is cool and all but god of war and mario on the same console , would be cool if they merged and had sony just work on the home systems and had nintendo work on the portables, PSP mets DS
 
That's not quite how it went down. Once again it's a case of Sony being voraciously greedy, Nintendo realized it was getting fucked in the ass if they went through w/ the deal and pulled out.
 
plus nintendo and MS are both in washington...making them natural allies...(I dont know if this is true, they may have gang fights every wednesday for all I know)
 
Even though Nintendo and Microsoft are really only a block or two away in Redmond, Nintendo's main HQ still remains in Japan.

Microsoft has made offers countless times to buy the company outright, both just for Stateside (NOA) sales, and for Worldwide (JP) ... Nintendo told them to go fuck themselves... MS reportedly even offered $250 billion at one point during the XBOX ... thats a fuckton of money to turn down for anyone...

So MS did the next best thing and took Rare completely, which was a move that so far, hasn't really paid off... sucks for microsoft.


every year I laugh at people who say "Nintendo is going the way of Sega and will stay strictly software" ... Nintendo is too profitable ... their hardware, peripherals and 1st party/2nd party software is more than enough, they don't need the 3rdparty developers to keep the consoles alive like Sony or even Microsoft (though they have a few 1st party developers now)

Also everyone is bashing Nintendo for the way they've gone with the Wii, be it for graphics or some other shit... Nintendo made it clear from the get go, they weren't interested in a console war, and are letting MS and Sony go at eachother throats while they just cruise on by on the sideline, relaxed and profitting, no worries.
