What I can do for my nails instead of polishing them?

I love the look of polished nails, but I hate having mine polished because the polish always starts chipping off after a few days and I hate the upkeep. Lots of people tell me I have beautiful hands and I'd love to play up my nails, but how in a way that avoids polish and is longer lasting.
