what helps my back pain

Hi, I read the board almost daily but don't have much to contribute too often. I had a laminectomy, discectomy on L3,L4 and L5 2 years ago. I refused a fusion because I have osteroporosis and was afraid hardware wouldn't hold. The pain down the leg is gone but I have the lower back ache especially if I stand or walk too long.
I invested in the exercise tennis shoes about 5 months ago. I still don't have those buns of steel, but I have found I don't have the pain when I wear the shoes. I actually went out on Black Friday for a short while and was able to stand in line. Something I normally can't do when I just wear regular shoes. Anyway, thought I would share.

Thanks Mel, for telling us about the shoes. I'm so glad they are helping you, tho I don't know which ones you are talking about. I'd like to try them!

As for more surgery, I wonder if you have any nerve impingement. Your symptoms are somewhat comparable to mine prior to my last surgery. I have osteopenia, and have had no trouble with screws and roRAB staying in place. If you are still considering surgery, you should discuss your osteo with the surgeon and get his opinion.....I'm sure he has done this many times before.

Again, thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays.

Hi Carol, mine are the sketchers but all the companies make them now.
I did discuss fusion with the surgeon and he also felt with my osteroporosis it would be a risk of the hardware failing. The surgeon had told me the laminectomy would only relieve the leg pain and it did but not take care of the back pain. I still chose to avoid the fusion. I just had a nerve conduction test a few weeks ago, results pending.
Happy holidays to you also. The season is upon us. It was pretty cold here today reminding me winter is arriving. I won't get much sympathy saying I am freezing in 40 degree weather but it is cold for S. Calif
