If your cortisol is too high during the day, you don't want to take licorice. A compound in licorice prevents the natural breakdown of cortisol in the body -- therefore licorice might actually INCREASE your problems. Though, for those w/LOW cortisol, perhaps licorice is worth a try.
Also, with high cortisol, you DON'T want steroids! That RX is also for low adrenal function.
To lower high cortisol, you might research phosphatidyl serine, sometimes abbreviated PS. It is a supp.
Some cases of high cortisol are due to syndromes requiring standard medical intervention. There are very effective meds to help suppress cortisol.
BTW, early onset osteoporosis can result from the high cortisol.
