What has happened in the past month or so that I should write to friend in boot camp?

My friend left for boot camp about a month ago. He is a Marine recruit. I am about to write him a letter. I have heard its good to tell them what is going on in the world, because they are pretty much cut off. He loves football so I was going to tell him about the Superbowl. What else would he like to hear? What else should I say? What kind of things would you like to hear from your friends?
 
Tell him he missed a great Super bowl. And keep him up to date on what friends are doing and what changes are going on in his home town.
 
Obama's inauguration.
The stimulus package.
The fact that the economy is issue #1 on everyone's minds (since people in boot camp are cut off from the rest of the world as you know)
100,000 people laid off last week.
 
well, he probably wouldn't like to hear about it, but you could tell him international bankers took over our government. that would be significant, don't you think?
 
What the retard... I mean idiot.. I mean President is doing in office and how his plan won't help America but will put is in a Depression.
 
A bad day at boot camp beats a good day being on the front lines in Iraq.
 
When my husband was in boot he used to tell me to write him about everything going on in the world, but more so what was going on in MY life. He loved to hear about me and his friends and everything, kept him in the real world. Just tell him how proud of him you are, they love that too. Write him as often as you can. Mail time is their fun. lol
 
The Superbowl is always a great topic. You can also share some stories about the people he used to hang out with. Anything interesting happen at school? A teacher? Something fun (or not) about your family?

I'm sure he'll appreciate anything you write about!

I assume he's heard about his new commander-in-chief. That's the biggest news in the past month. You could give him an update on the first 2 weeks.
