I have a 1989 dodge dakota 2 wheel drive pickup with the 3.9 V6. throttle body injected. I've already removed the smog pump, a/c compressor, and about to remove the power steering pump. after removing the smog pump, and a/c compressor, i noticed a dramatic increase in engine power, as i expected. better fuel economy too. before i go and get rid of the power steering pump, i need to know: does the power steering fluid lubricate parts in the steering rack? i mean, besides the fact that its there to give hydraulic assist..im just wondering if the absence of a power steering pump would damage the steering rack. please dont tell me that it will be hard to steer, i realize that.
