what happens when xbox live gold membership free month trial runs out?

i just got a xbox 360 and i was wondering as long as i dont put my or any billing information i dont get charged right? also will i be in a way charged when it expires or what happens please any help would be good i dont want to be charged right now or owe anything thanks
 
You'll be offered great deals, like $2 a month or something.

You can buy a prepaid card at Gamestop, or buy it on the Xbox.

If you do on the Xbox, you enter billing/credit card info. They keep saying "you will not be charged yet". It's usually 9.99 gold/month or $60/year. The year is the best bet.
