What happens when the net force of an object is ZERO?

When the net force is zero, the object is said to be in constant velocity, since acceleration is zero. However, the object is still in motion. If it is in motion, then there must be an external force constituting to its movement. Therefore, the net force should not be zero. Yet, it is! How can this be?
