A friend of mine had to report to a local jail earlier today to provide "body samples" as part of an investigation and booking process. He is a 23 year old male and is currently treated as a suspect in a criminal case. He was told that they would take a "full range" of body samples from him today, as well as book him, but what exactly does this mean? I drove him to the jail and left him at the reception area, where they made him take off his shoes, frisked him and then took him into a room labeled "male processing."
I waited for around 15 minutes, and then saw an officer walk out of that room with a transparent bag containing my friend's clothing and belongings. I was not told how long this would all take and whether I should wait for him in the reception area until they are done with him. In fact, the officer at the reception flat out refused to give me any information, citing privacy laws. After around 45 minutes, I just left and drove home, not knowing what to do and having received no information. I feel bad about leaving him there--he doesn't have any relatives in this city--so I'm not sure what to do. It's been around four hours now. What's happening to him and should I go back to demand information?
