What happens on the omnibus date?

My father-in-law was charged with a felony. He has an omnibus date set. What exactly happens during this hearing? I have looked up the legal definition, but I don't understand what it means exactly.
This is for Indiana. I am just wondering what happens during an omnibus hearing.
