I was a witness for an assault with a weapon last year and it's finally going to court tomorrow. We agreed (because of various mental illnesses I have) that my statement would be read out in court and I wouldn't have to be there providing I got a letter from my doctor, which I did.
I sent the letter of about a month ago, but they have phoned today saying it is not enough and they need to speak to my doctor or I will be issued a summons. I feel sure my doctor will sort this there is no reason for him not to, but if he doesn't I will refuse the summons.
Obviously I will be arrested but then would I get a fine/community service or something on top of that?
I don't have an option to ask in different countries that's why I put UK in the question.
