What happens if my references are hard to get a hold of? Will I lose a job because...

...of it? I had to list three references for a professional job I'm applying for. I listed my two previous employers and my college advisor. My one employer already called me to tell me that they had just contacted her (I had the interview around 10 this morning). My other employer is very hard to get into contact with and my advisor isn't always available. I couldn't list anybody else..what happens if my references are hard to get a hold of? Will they toss me aside?
