what happened to the toyota tacoma "compact pick-up!!!?

i had a mid 80's toyota xtra cab & now 92 toyota xtra cab and was looking at a new toyota xtra cab and they're huge!!!! i don't need a mid or full size or what ever they're calling it gas guzzler!!!! and it probably wont even fit in my single garage...
 
I have a Tacoma X-Runner and it doesn't fit in my garage because it's so long. I think it's a matter of people not wanting tiny trucks anymore. When the SUVs got bigger so did everything else. I took a test drive in a Tacoma in 98 and it was just too tiny for me. I'm glad they made them bigger other than the hit for fuel mileage.
 
Toyota went the way of GM and made them bigger and bigger until the public rebelled and stopped buying. Some of the best truck deals are on new Toyota Tundras and Tacoma's because they cannot get them off the lot. Of course truck deals are everywhere right now. Take a look at the Mazda B series trucks. I think you will be pleased withe size and amenities. We have had one since 1999 in the family and it still is going strong with 200k on it.
