What happened to my gold fish?

Over the summer, I was using my 55 gallon to house one goldfish. Pathetic, I know. I had just finished cycling it and was planning a tropical fish tank to start in the fall. :)

I got a fancy goldfish from the store. She was fine, ate, swam around, was cute as all goldfish are.

Then her eyes went black. She never grew. She didn't have any diseases, she just never grew and she had pitch black eyes.

The water temp was always at 70 deg. F, the pH was 7 or so and there was no ammonia, nitrites or nitrates. She died in July, after living for about three or four months.

What happened? Was she sick when I got her?

I didn't do goldfish after that in the tank... I switched to tropical and now I am doing African Cichlids.

Thanks!

if you were doing everything right she may have just been a weak one to start off with.. hope lies in the fact that you can get more fishies.. good luck with your cichlids
