My son (almost 19) has got a place at Northumbria Uni but there is no accommodation in 'halls', so he and a friend are viewing private flats in Newcastle next week. What checkpoints can you give him for private rented accommodation ? (I know of two separate instances where landlords tried to keep substantial deposits claiming replacement of carpets). What hidden cost might there be ?
