Spring is showing where i live and i wish to become active once more. I have committed to restoring an old bike of mine and have blown all my money in getting all the parts to have it function properly. Though i am annoyed with the stickers and all, and am curious as to what must be done to paint the bike yourself?

To be more specific:
How much time does it take? What steps are there? Is it worth the hassle if done carefully? Estimated costs for a basic black? Etc.

Any help from expierence would be wonderful, since no one else i know cares enough about their's to have looked into it or done anything.

Thanks for the help.

k well i haven't personally done it but a buddy of mine did it to his bmx
take off everything off your frame, forks, wheels, brakes,
sand it completly down
prime it like 3 times,
paint it
paint it
paint it
sand it lightly (very lightly)
paint it
then u put this clear coat type of thing on it
then ur pretty much set
remember when painting just lightly mist it, don't give a constant spray to one area, cause it will drip, become to thick, and not dry well
my friend used rustoleum or krylon primer, then krylon or rustoleum paint. not sure of clear coat though. I would also go with rustoleum cause i think its slightly higher quality than krylon.
good luck!

I painted a bike a few years ago. It was quite a bit of work. I took all the parts off the frame and sanded it down. You have to get it smooth to the touch. If you can feel it, you'll be able to see it after you paint it. Next I hung it from a clothesline and painted it with gray primer and sanded it lightly. Any time you sand, you have to wipe the dust off with a clean cloth before you put any paint on it. Finally I sprayed it with red Rustoleum. It looked beautiful, but that stuff would scrape off if you even laid the bike against a tree. If I had to do it again, I'd use epoxy paint.
