What genre is in control right now???

Yeah, it is true - personally I see them as different genres, not two sides of the same coin. "Contemp R&B" is just urban pop: the mellow, laid-back beats of hiphop infused with a dose of lame pop divaship, or worse, the likes of Akon, T-Pain and Ne-Yo.

If one played some old rhythm and blues to a bunch of kiRAB exposed only to urban contemp, they'd have no idea that they were listening to something that was also once termed "rhythm and blues". This to me shows that attempts to group them under a single urabrella are dubious, tenuous at best. Hell, modern r&b listeners don't even RESPECT old r&b. I've never come across an urban contemp station willing to play, every now and then, a 60s/70s r&b track. That's because they realize it just doesn't fit in with their sound at all. Modern rock stations by contrast will always be happy to play an old classic here and there.
 
It's contemp r&b and pop rap in the main, with a bit of pop punk/pop rock here and there. Just as it's been since the early nineties.
 
Radio friendly bit-pop/rock seems to be dominating these past months which isn't great but ....ergh, atleast it's not s club 7, thank god ive heard nothing of the spice girls since they announced their tour.

Why the need for ourfavourite genre? Have i got the point of this thread wrong or is the poll just for ****s and giggles?

Hip-Hop, i hate that is the most popular, i dont even listen to any of it really yet i can probably sing half of the songs, its everywhere.
 
Aye, I think it was uninentional, just to see how our favourite genres as merabers seem to corospond with the genre that's in control of the music industry right now i think.
 
I voted for Hip hop. the reason why they are the main genre is because they have a hold on the music industry. notice how every song is always featured by another artist. in a way it kind of makes me mad because it seems like they cant do anything on their own, which they obviously can, but there is strength in nurabers. if more artists colab together as opposed to one rock band, the colab is more likely favored to get the majority. and since most of the hip hop/r&b industry today is colabs with different artists, it outweighs the other genres.
 
yeah but what YOU meant by "premade" was specially crafted, engineered and manufactured simply to be a hit, without any real artistic integrity or innovation. so you were right.
