What fish would do well with a Male or Female betta?

I'm getting either a 14 or a 20 gallon tanks soon, and I would like more than just a betta. I know not to colorful fish, but I don't know what kind to get. People who say that male betta's are killers, just don't answer, cause they only flare with other male bettas' and don't usually kill if they can escape!
um no they don't kill, and no they don't need more room. My Grandmother had a betta in a community tank for a little under 2 1/2 years without trouble, she just can't remember what fish she had with it. Also, nothin that will nip at him/her please.

corydoras and tetras( neon and glolights) bettas arent killers only sometimes their aggresive, usually the neon tetras nip on the betta because of its long fins, females can go with most fish without a problem, just like any ordinary fish, guppies mollies tetras other females and many other species of fish, good luck!

I've heard that tetras are by far the most peaceful arangement for a betta. Neons, also are very cheap, and easy to care for.

I'm sorry to say it, but all bettas are going to kill other fish if the get in the bettas territory. Bettas require a larger area than most fish so it might not work to put a betta in with other fish.
