I have always housed other fish with my betta, while they are meant to be alone, it doesnt cause any physical trauma for the beta to have another fish with him. Be sure to get one that's a little bigger than the betta, never smaller, and make sure it doesnt have extra fancy fins (then the betta will assume that its another betta)

I have always housed koi with my bettas which means you have to clean the tank more often because carp poo alot.

A beta would not harm a goldfish be sure to know that a goldfish would grow. mollies would also do fine and ur betta should not harm them.

Ok,i have a little red betta in a small tank...i want to add in another fish so he will have some Company.what fish should i put in with him?i cant decide.people told me no long tails or flashy colors and no bottom feeders...what do u think i should get?

If in at least a 5 gallon tank, you can provide a companion. If in a 2 1/2 gallon, no.
Non-fish tankmates would probably be best. Examples are African dwarf frogs (very active) and some species of dwarf shrimp (much less active).
Most small fish are schooling fish, so wouldn't be good in a small tank.

Betta's are really meant to be on their own...another fish will probably not survive in the tank with him.
