I am getting a 10 gallon fresh water tank. I plan on getting a convict cichlid. I want to get a cleaner shrimp, or a otto cat. But i hear otto cats like to be in groups of 2 or 3?
In your opinion, which should i get- a cleaner shrimp or an otto cat?
I forgot to add, I do not plan on getting a filter or a heater.
Should I?
Would the choice of shrimp or otto cat change at all?

you either get a filter, a heater and an air pump or you do not get fish at all.

You NEED a filter AND heater or else your fish will die.

And Cleaner Shrimp are saltwater not freshwater.

Without a filter you have no options.

If you want to do well in this hobby and don't wish to become frustrated at the death of your fish, you will need a filter, and an aquarium heater. Without them you set yourself up for failure.

Set up your aquarium with a filter and a heater and cycle it. This site thoroughly explains the cycling process- http://aquatropicalfish.wordpress.com/2009/02/19/fishless-cycle/

As you can see the cycle may take some time and during this period you have the time to properly research any fish you wish to add to the aquarium. Minimum tank size, adult size of the fish, compatibility with other fish, diet, preferred water chemistry, and ease of keeping should be looked at prior to purchase.

~A convict cichlid requires a minimum of 30 gallons.

Chilids get pretty big, and they are very aggressive. They can barly be with their own kind, i dont suggest putting anything with these guys.
