I've been wanting a fish tank forever! So I went to Pets-mart and saw a 10 gallon tank that came with a filter, heater, food, and everything. So what fish should I keep in it? I looked at Bala Sharks and Glo-fish (not goldfish GLOFISH you know they glow under a black light kinda small)
So any suggestions?
Ok I DO NOT WANT GOLDFISH. So far I'm thinking Neon Tetras. K? Sounds cool. So how many Neon Tetras? 1 per gallon or what?

I WOULD GET THE GLOFISH THAT TANK IS TO SMALL FOR GOLDFISH AND IF YOU GET A BETTA YOU SHOULD ONLY KEEP ONE YOU COULD ALSO GET SOME TETRAS OR SOME CONVICT JELLYBEAN CICHLIDS TGHOSE ARE COOL THEY ARENT VERY COLORFUL BUT THEY ARE VERY FUN THE WATCH THEY MOVE THINGS AROUND AND PLAY WITH EACHOTHER ALOT!!!

ok 10 gals that is all you are ging to have. let me explain to you if you go for salt water then you get that type of fish. if you go for freshwater you get that type. you can only have so many in a tank that small. don't go to petsmart and buy fish they aren't good ones and they end up dying most of the tiem.you go to a pets store with just fish. you get someone to help you since you knw nothing about it and start from there those tanks that have air etc. they aren't good and they don't work well. you have to really readup on it and its not easy to d its fun but you haveto want to invest in the tright stuff and fish. i sugest you get a bigger tank and then slowly get fish and learn what you can do and what type of bottom to use. never use coral use sandthat is what a guy told us i have a son who has this stuff hes got salt water and clear tanks one is over 130 gals. outside pond and then he has big one inside salt its 200 gals. you have to really becareful where you buy things.

Choose whatever you want, but make sure that you just don't get too many since they will die from lack of oxygen and high ammonia levels. So make sure you only get a certain amount. It also depends on the fish's size. On most websites, you can see how many gallons a certain fish needs, and then see how many you can fit. I have a ten gallon that I managed to fit about five medium sized fish in without them dying.

Stay clear of balas. They grow 12"-14" and require 100-150 gallons.

I would suggest a few African dwarf frogs, and a school of neon tetras.

Don't forget to cycle your tank- http://aquatropicalfish.wordpress.com/2009/02/19/fishless-cycle/

get guppies ^-^

be aware they are breeding machines though

you can fit 20 in a ten gal

good luck!

EDIT:
goldfish are a bad idea for a tank as small as 10 gal, takes a 10 gal for just one
