what fish do african cichids work with?

I am about to buy a 55 gallon tank just for cichids and I was just wondering if any other fish would work with these beautiful fish.also I was wondering how should I set the tank for my cichids,as in decoration.thanks

My cichlids are from Lake Malawi, so I decorated with rocks and Aragonite to keep up the pH. They are aggressive so I am not sure what else you could put with them, though I do also have upside down catfish and they seem to be Ok.
Good question would be do you have cichlids already or is there a kind you were looking at? There are so many cichlids with so many personalities and needs, it is enough to make your head spin.
