Hey all,

How is everyone doing? Me not so well. I live in Canada. I have been through 2 major spine surgeries and am going through a lot right now. I had a lot of complications with my surgeries. I love my surgeon here and fully trust him. I am however facing another spine surgery and am contemplating the idea of going to Minnesota to the Mayo CLinic there and at least have a consult. And in turn maybe surgery there. I was already in contact with them and they said that I am a good candidate for surgery so we'll see. I see my surgeon in a couple weeks and I will know after that if I will be going for a consult at the Mayo.

Questions are: What are your experiences with that Clinic?
DId you have spine surgery there? Hwo did it turn out? What was it like? What was the outcome?
Basically any info you can provide for me owuld be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so very much.

Hello Beachgirl,

I was going to post earlier, but am glad I waited til today. I saw my surgeon this afternoon and he confirmed what I had been thinking. The Mayo Clinic is very outstanding in many areas, but their spine center is not that well-known. It would not be considered one of their strongest departments. My surgeon's mom works as a nurse at the Mayo Clinic, and he has some frienRAB who work there...so he is familiar with their spinal department. He said it was good, but nothing out of the ordinary.

I asked him if it was because the Twin Cities were only 45 minutes away and there were two world-class practices there? He said he would recommend the Twin Cities Spine Center over Mayo's any day. You might take a look at their website and see what you think. He did say they have gotten very selective in which cases they accept. I imagine they would find yours sufficiently interesting and challenging!! They are a very old clinic. All the doctors are involved in various research projects; they offer fellowship training -- you can't say that about too many private practices!!

If you decide to seek an opinion different from your own doctor's, this would be a great place to check out.

Hope you can get a good night's sleep tonight.

Hey!

How are you doing today? Thank you so much for the reply. I didn't know much about the Twin Cities Spine Centre. I looked into it and it sounRAB pretty good. I think I might get in touch with someone there and send them my file. I am very curious with as to what they might say in regarRAB to my "unique" situation. Thanks so much for looking into this for me. I thought that the Mayo Clinic would be cream of the crop, however when i sent them my file almost a year ago, I wasn't terribly pleased with what came of it. It's so hard to say until you are there and you meet the possible surgeon.

Thanks again. I am going to continue to research. Do you know of any other centre or hopitals that would be good? It certainyl doesn't have to be in Minnesota, I would be coming from Canada anyway so I am willing to go as far as I need to. Thanks so much, take care, I hope you are able to enjoy your weekend ;)
