What exercises should I do to prepare for a hike?

Every summer I attend a week long camp. Part of this camp is a day hike every year. The first four years I went to camp the hikes were not a problem, but last year I really struggled. For the first four years I did gymnastics, but my coach quit and I did too. Since then, I don't consistently exercise and have gotten out of shape. So when I was the last person up the mountain last year, I was SO embarrassed. The hike I am going on this year is 14 miles total. 7 up and 7 down. It is at 10,000 feat above sea level so the air is lacking in oxygen. I have exercise induced asthma but it is very manageable. I also live right next door to a park with small hills so jogging hills is an easily available exercise. I still have quite strong legs so it is more my breathing that is a concern. What exercises would you suggest I do to get in shape?
