What exercise would be good for me?

I am 21 and i think im underweight. I weigh 8 stone or 53kgs I eat alot but i have a fast metabolism. Im currently studying and i do no exercise, the most is walking. I would love to get active again but im afraid that il lose more weight if i do more exercise.As a student i simply dont have the money to buy more food. I would love to do swimming but i think that will burn off alot. What do you think? What would you suggest?
