I know the definition of it. Figures projecting from a background of which they are part. The artist cuts the design into the surface so that the highest projecting parts of the image are no higher than the surface itself.
I know that a frieze would be a relief.
But for some reason, I can't seem to wrap my mind around anething else.
Are friezes the only relief sculptures? Or can a bust or a statute be a a relief as well?
The definition is confusing me I think.
Can someone help me out please?
