What exactly is a liberal arts college?

I am looking up colleges and some are labeled "liberal arts," and I was wondering exactly what that meant. What kind of programs does that kind of college specialized in?
 
its a college were black people who are dumb go to.... go to a major college. if u want to go to a business school,then go to a B-School. Med school, etc. liberal arts is the 3 major subjects in college which are math english and soc. If u are an individual who is undecided in your particular major, then you would attend a liberal arts school.
 
Liberal arts colleges are typically smaller, private, and offer a smaller range of majors. They offer the classical college majors - English, history, languages, science, math, art, dance, theater, music, etc without many if any specialized programs like nursing, accounting, or engineering. While 4-year colleges, they concentrate more on a professors teaching ability than research, so they often have some of the best teachers, while still offering some research opportunities.
