What exactly is a common law marriage...?

and in the state of Ohio what does that mean? How long do you have to be together to be considered common-law? Then do you actually have to go through a divorce to get married to someone else? Or does this even exist?
 
Everywhere is different as in each state has it's own set of laws reguarding this. I know in Canada common-law takes place when a man and a woman are living together as a couple for atleast 6 months. Ending the relationship and such I'm not sure on the legalities check with your local Courthouse/ City Hall.
