What ELSE could be causing my afternoon crashes?

I have been diagnosed as having Reactive Hypoglycemia. But no matter how strictly I abide by diet guidelines, I crash hard at the same time everyday (between 2 and 4 in the afternoon).

This happens, however, REGARDLESS of when or what I eat.

Could something else be causing these crashes? It's so severe that I feel like I'm drunk and can barely carry on a conversation. It eventually goes away a few hours later - but again, doesn't seem to be tied to what or when I eat.

I'm open to any insight... allergies, hormones, metaphysical causes... anything! It's completely impeding my life, and I'm sure will eventually ruin my relationships because of the ridiculous mood swings. Help!

Hi Jane.

I did a fasting glucose test and it showed that my insulin spikes after simple carbs, which then causes me to crash. I've since experimented with various combinations of complex carbs and proteins, eating small meals every couple of hours, and only eating one large meal in the evening to forego the spikes and crashes during the day. But I still always crash at the same time everyday.

I usually drink one cup of coffee every morning - sometimes as early as 6, and sometimes as late as 10 (depending on my a.m. schedule). Do you think that could be causing it? Can that amount of caffeine really affect blood sugar to such an extent?
