What does this proverb mean?

I came across it on the internet and usually I'm pretty good at figuring this stuff out but this one had me puzzled.

"Singing is for dinner, grief for lunch."

Can someone elaborate? Thanks so much.
 
Two ideas spring to mind.

First, dinner is a larger meal than lunch, at least where I come from. Therefore, sing more than you grieve.

Second, dinner is at the end of the day, lunch in the middle. Therefore, grieve while something is happening, but at the end of the day, sing and celebrate.

What say you?
