What does this joke mean?

I used to think I was smart, until someone sent me something with this "joke" on it:

"It's lonely at the top.. but you eat better."

Can someone please explain it to me?

It means that getting to the top of the heap can be lonely, but it has its rewards.

It means that getting to the top (meaning becoming really rich or successful) can make you feel lonely, because not that many people are at the top...but when you're rich and famous, you eat well. It's just playing with the old saying "It's lonely at the top." It's not really funny, just slightly amusing...and the fact that you don't get it doesn't mean you're not smart!!
