what does this electronics symbol mean?

i am reading the GCSE revision guide for D&T electronics and have found a symbol which i do not recognise and is not explained.

it looks like an O with a / throught it.

the context is batteries

D size battery
1.5V
62mm height
(O/ symbol) 35

AAA battery size
1.5V
45mm
(O/ symbol) 11

any help greatly apreciated
