What does this age of consent law mean?

The age of consent in Kentucky is 16. Section 510.020 of the Kentucky Revised Statutes deems a person unable to consent if he or she is less than 16 years old. It is a defense however if the "victim" is at least 14 and the actor is less than 5 years older {510.130(b)}.

Say the girl is 15, and the male is 19 (I am not implying this about anything I have done, I am having an argument with a friend), what does that whole "defense" thing mean? I don't know what it means to be considered a defense.

Anyone share some light on the subject?
