what does the law state about prorated rent?

My landlord is giving me till the 22nd to move out and has told me i need to pay that months prorated rent.. nowhere in the rental agreement does it state i have to pay every month a prorated rent, it states only the month i move in.. isnt prorated rent only used for ppl renting for a few days im a montht o month renter.. so im confused...
im from san jose ca..
 
That stuff is a State by State basis. It would be hard to answer without knowing your state,city,county laws, and I am not a lawyer.
I did look that stuff up for a friend in Texas.
There are better mystate.gov sites that explain it in greater detail and loaded with legalese.
