Airsoft guns are normally used to play airsoft, like a paintball gun would normally be used to play paintball. Both are basically the same sport.
Airsoft is exactly like paintball except there isn't a giant mess created by playing. Also, Airsoft is typically a cheaper hobby, thats why i like it. Furthermore, you don't need to wear as much protection, and your clothes don't get stained. You can play it literally anywhere.
However, it has it's downsides. The guns are much more realistic, which is good but can cause problems. Also you must play with trustworthy people and never with sore losers. Why? Because they have to tell you if they got hit or not. Theres no paint to prove they were shot.
Airsoft is typically played with plastic bbs. The most common weights being .12 and .20. Most airsoft guns can also fire small paintballs. I have no idea where to get them though.
If you want to play airsoft there are countless ways to play-
capture the flag,last man standing, or just a death match. Most people end up making up there own game scenarios.
You need at least two people to play.
Ask your husband about it. He can probably teach you if you want to play the game. I recommend it. It is really fun.
If you decide to try it BE CAREFUL WITH WHAT GUN YOU GET. Most guns are terribly weak. Read reviews and check the fps. Don't waste your time with anything below 300 fps (.12 gram).
