In some countries, sometimes, if you beat your wife and threaten to stab her with a knife, you get a $$100/200 fine and POSSIBLY soem jail time. What does it say about such a nation, in terms of the status of women, esp in the home?
It might just say that they keep in mind that jailtime could cause him to lose his job, thus making him unable to provide for the wife who is highly unlikely to leave him.
