what does it mean when your tonsil unbearably hurts only on one side

i had tonsilitis when i was 5. my right tonsil has been huge ever since then. it hasn't bothered me until now. my tonsil is bigger and it hurts like CRAZY!!! my mom just told me to take an ibprofin. it didnt help. any suggestions?
 
My son's tonsils were like that. His right one was always huge. He did develop an abscess in it but that pain was so bad he was writhing in pain and he was 16 so I don't think that's it. You wouldn't be here typing with that pain.

But when he was in college he got really bad pain and thought he was getting another abscess. Fearing the really bad pain again he went to the ER. Turned out his really large right tonsil was hiding a small piece of pepperoni behind it. The spices were burning his tonsil. So if you have a really big tonsil, try doing some gargling with plain water. Might be a small piece of food caught behind it. If it keeps up, see your doc. Could be an infection or a piece of pizza!
