What does it mean if my car engine pings when I turn off the ignition?

I just bought a used 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix with 70K miles. It runs great; however I've noticed after a small amount of driving it makes these strange pinging noises when the car is turned off. After a couple minutes the pinging stops. The high pitched "twang" sounds like I'm banging a pot with a metal spoon every 5 seconds or so.

Should I be worried?
