What does it feel like being your own boss and running a small successful business?

I'm currently a 6 months laid off 6 months working seasonal heating and cooling installer for a local Michigan heating and cooling company. Although I have skills in heating and cooling and only 26, I've always thought that I can do better, especially considering the fact that I don't work for half of the year. My dad is close to retirement age but he runs a small operation carpet and upholstery company. He's been doing this for about the last 5 years. I'm usually his helper on some of the bigger jobs. I've seen the kind of money one can make in a few short hours cleaning carpet and furniture and I have to say that it's inspired me to take steps towards running my own carpet cleaning operation. These are tough times economically but I've done my market research and I can see that many people of every financial level are still buying the services of carpet and upholstery cleaners and for those who own the businesses, they're doing well.

Tell me about a small business dream that you had that actually came true and how things are going with your small business. What is your business? How has your life changed financially, maybe even emotionally as a result of not having a 9-5 anymore? What are some of the challenges?

Thank you
