What does delivery attempted mean on amazon.com?

I'm ordered a fisheye 2 on april 15th (the estimated delivery is April 21st) and was just tracking my order. TOday is April 18th and it said at 12AM a delivery was attempted? Was that mean?
why would they attempt to deliver something at 12AM? Plus, i was home all day (no school? :D)
